Social Dimension

Humans are social animals, and we are not limited to just execute task as life is not just about acquiring a job and be damned for the rest of our lives. Regardless of any occupation we have landed on, we still have to communicate and interact with those around us and it is not limited to teaching as well. A teacher has to be diplomatic and flexible to communicate with not just the students but also to parents, colleagues, superiors and even those they met temporarily in their daily lives (on and off duty).

Students

The basic communication a teacher would exchange with is of course their students. Besides teaching and relaying information, the body language, the mood of their speech are also vital as it affects the students' demeanor. There's a saying in Chinese: "One would prefer facing tenderness than roughness," this courtesy stresses on respect. Despite the teachers are adults, they are not to control the students' actions but rather guiding them so that they are on the right track. All three of the teachers where I have been assigned to assist- Mr. Crews, Ms. Kit May and Ms. Rhian possess this quality. They may be gentle and friendly to the students but they are firm and thus the students are willing to listen to them. Aside from that, they are very encouraging and never dismiss the students' ideas so that they are given the freedom to name out their ideas and opinions- because of this the students are quick-witted and confident.

Colleagues and Superiors

From their everyday interactions, we can tell that the teachers' culture are very transparent. Regardless of whatever ideas they have, they are willing to share with one another as they want each and every student from every class to experience the same opportunity of learning as well. Aside from that, they all seem very comfortable with each other and their conversations are always very lighthearted. They prefer to be informal when it comes to addresses and honorifics by their first names. Just like any other staff in Nexus, the relationship of the teachers with their superiors are very transparent, none would be heard calling their superiors on their last names and hence reflects the welcoming environment in the "workplace".
